The Energetics of Relationships

We can understand and use energetic principles to improve our relationships with ourselves and others.

Are our relationships where we would like them to be? If so, that is a beautiful thing! 

Yet most of us have had or currently have personal interactions and relationships that fall short of what we would desire.

So many factors influence our interactions and relationships. These can include our own and others’ health, developmental stage and communication styles. 

Improving Our Interactions

This article focuses on how we can understand and use energetic principles to improve our relationships with ourselves and others.

To begin, I suggest asking a few basic questions. Am I fully grounded and centered? Do I set boundaries that others must not cross? Do I have a strong sense of when my boundaries are being crossed? Do I take on others’ energies? Do I feel ungrounded? Do I cross others’ boundaries? 

Knowing our own energy status is vital when considering how we relate to others. When we have an energy system that abounds with our own natural energies, we are in a state of energetic wellness. 

How Compromised Energy affects our Interactions

If we are ungrounded or afflicted with energies other than our own, we may feel a sense of unease. Many have bodily sensations that alert them when something feels wrong. Some may even feel disconnected from their bodies or might feel under a lot of stress unable to relax, or even feel spacy or clumsy. 

In my own case, I initially feel a tightening sensation in my upper and lower abdomen, followed by tension in my neck and shoulders. When I begin to feel this way, I know I need to stop and reground. 

When we are embodied - our soul aligned with our body and spirit - we are in the best position to relate well both to ourselves and to others. 

It’s vital that we first work on ourselves to ensure that we can relate to others on a loving and spiritual basis. Others, including our pets, can pick up on our energy. Are we in a state of unease? Are we present in the moment? Are we frustrated? Are we ungrounded? 

As you move into greater energy awareness and wellness your field will convey the following: I feel good about myself; I am relaxed and authentic; I am caring; I am open; I have my boundaries. 

A Recent Case Study From My Life

I have an example that illustrates the importance of having a resilient energy system. I was meeting with someone recently over Zoom. I had done my daily energy prep and all the things I normally do to prepare for the meeting, including setting positive intentions. I was in a really good and centered place. 

Some of you may know, however, that I have had a voice condition for many years and only in the past year was healed enough to be able to get back into leading discussion groups. 

I introduced myself and shared about my life. When I was done, the person asked, “So what’s going on with your voice?” For a split second, I felt the pit of my stomach tense up. I took a breath, my body calmed and I explained my condition. My explanation actually then led into a great discussion concerning their family member who has a somewhat related condition. By maintaining my energetic boundaries when answering that question, and by ‘refreshing’ my energies, the meeting was very successful. If I had received that statement “So what’s going on with your voice?” in a way that pierced my auric layers and went into my chakras, I might have lost heart and confidence and perhaps said something self-defeating. 

What helps and hinders our interactions -- ideas for you to use.

  • Become and stay aware of your energy status. Do you know your negative energy warning signals? Make sure you are grounded and centered. Ask yourself if you have set and are maintaining clear boundaries.

  • Use practices that heal and clear others’ energies from your body and/or energy system: self-healing techniques; visualization; verbal intention statements; receiving healing sessions.

  • Rituals and preparation for interactions with others such as using spirit to spirit technique, preparing for interactions with positive intention and prayer, visualizing yourself in your own energy egg.
